BRUTALIST
PROJECT
This project was my final project at university. The site was the train station in Sheffield and we had to use the space to design a new and innovative building.
Ground floor plan
The ground floor of the building was the HUB and bypass from the station platform to the city. I wanted it to be easily accessible for everyone travelling through or to the City. I wanted a bar and cafe to be placed in the bottom floor, This was to entice travellers into the space and maybe want to explore the creativity throughout the building.

Mezzanine floor plan
The mezzanine floor is meant to make the 2 floors feel connected. The walk through and open seating area is meant for when the space below 1. gets too busy, and 2. adds exciting for the floors above. The seating areas are spread out and also inclusive for everyone to mingle as well as be able to work alone. The stools and tall tables are for working customers to use the free wifi and crack on with emails.

Second floor plan
The second floor plan was initially design as a colab work space, however i changed that idea and thought the space would be better used as a library area. There are limited libraries in Sheffield that are also easily accessible from the Train station. Public transport would have to be used. I wanted to make the space cohesive for everyone, Sharing books and reading in secret nooks as well as open spaces with high seating, perfect for studying with a view.

First floor plan
The first floor is where you begin to see the structural staircase i designed for this building. You can see a peak of it through the different screens used for displaying artwork from up and coming artists from the city. I wanted to create an open space with windows on the south side of the building to take advantage of the natural lighting.

Third floor plan
The third floor was always going to be the show stopper element of the building. Not only do you get a better view of the city the higher up the floors you go, but the lighting becomes crucial to warming up such a brutalist building. I wanted to bring nature into the building on this floor. Adding outdoor seating with the floor above being used as a cover. The idea of being in nature with natural materials in the middle of a city centre was the juxtaposition i was aiming for.
Fourth floor plan
The fourth and final floor is the space where creativity and ideas can really blossom. With the high tables and benches it is the perfect layout for a workshop space. Whether it is drawing, painting, woodwork, anything is possible in this space. The walls were made up with cork so that you could mood board and get your ideas all on the wall together.
